Key benefits
Derating driven by measured temperature
Sensing at the power contact lets the coupler hold full current in cold weather and back off only when the contact is actually hot. Fixed-current designs either waste capability or cook their contacts.
Cooling matched to duty cycle
Natural convection is right for workplace and depot charging. Liquid cooling is what makes 500 A DC physically manageable for a person.
One supplier across standards
Type 2, CCS1, CCS2, GB/T, NACS and CHAdeMO from one source keeps mechanical interfaces, spares and qualification consistent across markets.
Description
A charging coupler is a safety component as much as a connector: it carries load current, interrupts it only when the interlock says it is safe, reports its own temperature, and survives being dropped, driven over and left in the rain. Grapcharger couplers are built around temperature sensing at the power contacts, with derating driven by measured contact temperature rather than a fixed current limit.
Covered standards are IEC 62196 Type 2 for AC, CCS1 and CCS2 Combo for DC, GB/T 20234 for the Chinese market, NACS and CHAdeMO. Liquid-cooled DC variants carry high current through a cable a technician can actually handle.

FAQ
Which standard do I need for which market?
Europe is CCS2 with Type 2 for AC. North America is moving to NACS with CCS1 still widely installed. China is GB/T. Japan is CHAdeMO. Our standards comparison article walks through the details.
Why liquid cooling?
Above roughly 300 A the copper cross-section needed for natural cooling makes the cable too heavy and stiff to handle. Liquid cooling keeps the cable thin and light.
What is the rated service life?
Couplers are validated to at least 10,000 mating cycles. Public-duty variants are specified for higher abuse resistance than depot-duty ones.
